This is a kind of infertility problem found in men and is found to be main cause to the male infertility. Oligospermia is a problem associated to the semen with less sperm count, where semen with reduced sperm concentration at times shows abnormalities in the sperm motility.
Diagnosis of Oligospermia
If the couple has not managed to conceive after one year of trying for a baby, the couple should consult a doctor. They will carry out some fertility tests for both the male and female partners. Semen analysis is the basic test that is performed for men to check the quality and quantity of sperm. This test is repeated for up to three months if the sperm count is very low.
Causes of Oligospermia
This condition is associated with various genetic and non genetic disorders like:
- Imbalance of hypogonadism hormone
- Klinefelter syndrome, a kind of inherited genetic problem
- Undescended testicles
- Problems in the male genital track
- Infections for genital organs like Chlamydia, gonorrhea, or prostatitis
- Previous surgery to the scrotum
- Using drugs like marijuana
Treatment procedure for Oligospermia
The foremost suggestion given to the patients with this problem or any fertility problems is preventions, i.e. to avoid smoking, reduced weight, avoid excess anger/stress and wear loose undergarments. The treatment to Oligospermia includes some medication and often surgery is recommended at the case of post testicular causes like hydrocele. Treatments also includes the IVF and IUI, where IUI (Intrauterine insemination) is suggested for the couples who are with the count less than 20 million per HPF and IVF recommended to the couple with the count less than 5 million/HPF. There are many chances where the diagnosis to Oligospermia is often delayed or missed due to the unaware of the condition and misconception of woman infertility. So it is recommended for both the couples to undergo the fertility tests so as to get the right medication as early as possible.
