Tests prior to starting IVF

There are many causes and reasons for the infertility problem and it is different for every individual. Some cases it involves only male factor, some cases female factor or a combination of factors. Test prior to the IVF treatment are compulsory to diagnose the exact problem of infertility.

Before starting an IVF treatment, every treatment must did some tests using egg and sperm of both the partners.

General tests:
Before starting the treatment, the doctor tests the blood group and blood levels in the women and some conditions were screened that supports for healthy pregnancy. The blood test will be performed for documenting rubella immunity and chicken pox. Hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis were also tested for both the patient and the partner.

Ovarian reserve testing:
Age is the main considerable factor for the IVF treatment. Ovarian reserves in the women were decreased with age and the quality and quantity of eggs may also reduce at a time. AMH, FSH and few tests for performed to evaluate the concentration of FSH and estrogen hormone at the early days of menstrual cycle. Ultrasound is also performed for testing the response of the ovaries for fertility drugs.

Semen Analysis:
Semen analysis before the start of the IVF cycle is important as the quality of semen may vary at times that could affect the IVF process.

Mock embryo transfer:
For determining the depth of the uterus cavity, the doctor will perform a mock embryo test and this will helps doctors in successfully placing the embryo into the uterus.

Examination of uterine cavity:
Uterine is generally evaluated prior to the IVF treatment with the help of three different methods like:  a hysterosalpingogram, a saline infusion sonohysterography, in which a fluid is injected through the cervix into the uterus or a hysteroscopy, in which a lighted telescope is inserted through vagina and cervix into the uterus.
