The IUI is the common infertility treatment with high success rates and helps infertile couple to get pregnant. But there are some side effects due to the IUI process that most women find.

  • Most women experienced little to no pain at the time of IUI treatment.

  • Mild cramping may be observed in some women.

  • In very rare cases, infections may occur due to IUI.

It is proven that, in many cases the side effects were occurring due to the fertility drugs they have used at the time of IUI not with the procedure. Side effects due to fertility drugs are:

  • Hot flashes

  • Depression and mood swings

  • Nausea, headaches or visual instability

  • Pain in ovaries and swollen ovaries

  • Bloating, pelvic discomfort, breast tenderness

  • Ovarian cysts

  • Swelling or a rash around the insertion site

The risk of multiples in IUI process

There is a very small risk of multiples with IUI, but it is a side effect due to the taking of fertility drugs. Women who take IUI along with the fertility drugs have a 10 percent chances to become pregnant with couples. This multiple pregnancy causes health risks to the mother as well as baby like:

  • Complications at birth

  • Premature delivery

  • Low weight

  • Developmental problems

  • Gestational diabetes

  • Preeclampsia

  • Bed rest
