Maharashtra Govt. regulates IVF centers

Now days there are many IVF centres in major cities, especially in Mumbai. Thus the Maharashtra government has invited suggestions from both the government and private IVF centres in Mumbai. There are no regulations to open up Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) IVF centre. Now the ART centres are regulated under the Mumbai nursing act and clinic establishment act. The government wants to make sure that the mother should be medically certified as infertile before going through the IVF treatment. Regarding to the surrogacy conditions, the government passed a rule that the surrogate mother should not subjugated for monetary considerations. Before opting for an IVF procedure, the couple also needs to check the experience and qualification of the doctor.

Present in Maharashtra state, there are nearly 525 ART centres, out of which 120 are located in Mumbai, 135 in Pune, 70 in Nagpur, 14 in Nasik, 17 in Satara and 16 in Aurangabad and the remaining clinics are in various places and in various districts. The government said that all the ART clinics should fill the F form before starting the procedure. There needs to be regulations in the area of establishments, use of equipment, the IVF procedures the clinics have adopt, guidelines to be followed for registration, what protocol they need to adopt, para-medical staff, etc.
