For the woman who is facing difficulty with pregnant, many of the infertility specialists or doctors prescribe fertility drugs. The prescription depends upon on the type of the fertility problem and the major help of this fertility drug is to help in overcoming the challenges to get pregnant. These pills or the injections are given to stimulate the ovulation and in producing high quality eggs. These stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, which helps in conceiving. The process of boosting the release of eggs at the time of ovulation is called super ovulation or controlled ovarian hyperstimulation.

The fertility drugs are prescribed for the women with:

  •     Ovulation problems
  •     Polycystic ovary syndrome
  •     Thyroid disorders
  •     Eating disorders
  •     Excessive weight or underweight
  •     Hormonal problems or surplus prolactin problems with LH and FSH levels.

The most common fertility drugs that are offered by the infertility specialist to the women are:

Clomiphene/Clomid:

It is the normal fertility drug that is recommended by most of the doctors. It stimulates the brain to triggers a number of eggs at the time of ovulation.  Clomid is usually taken for five day cycle each month and women should start on day three, four or five on her cycle.  It is recommended to take clomid for six months i.e. for six cycles.

Gonadotropins:

Fertility of the women depends on the length of their cycle. If there are any problems in the period’s length, it causes hormone related issues.  Gonadotropins helps with the issues related to hormones and stimulates ovaries to produce more number of eggs.

hCG:

This drug helps in the maturation of the follicles and triggers the release of eggs. This drug is prescribed to trigger ovulation.

The normal side effects due to fertility drugs are

  • Headache
  • Bloating
  • Nausea
  • Cramps
  • Fatigue
